McConkey Press Release
Norm Basso with
McConkey for 30 years!
June 10, 2009:
Norm Basso, McConkey's Executive Vice President
and COO, has been with McConkey since June of 1979! McConkey employees
celebrated by taking him out to Heritage Hills for a Happy Hour after work
on Wednesday, June 10. Twenty six employees toasted Norm's endurance
as part of the McConkey family.
During June's First Friday event, several employees gave him a 'mini roast'
as they stood and remembered fun facts about Norm through the years.
Bernice Moses, McConkey's claims manager was particularly entertaining as
she remembered Norm's early years with the company. Norm gave a few
remarks afterward, emphasizing his gratitude for being a part of this
'family'.
Norm graduated magna cum laude from Clarion University and, after working as
an underwriter for Aetna C&S Co. for several years, he joined E.K. McConkey
in 1979 as an account executive. In 1983, he earned his Chartered
Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation, and only a short four
years later, he became a company shareholder. In 2002, Norm was
promoted to Executive Vice President, only to earn the additional title of
COO in 2004.
As
Executive Vice President and COO, Norm focuses on improving efficiencies and
quality of service through detailed analysis and a broad base knowledge of
business and operational functions. Through this careful analysis,
Norm assures that the best risk funding mechanisms are designed and executed
for each client.
Norm currently serves as Vice-Chairman of the Pennsylvania Insurance Agents
Association, which serves over 1,000 member agencies in Pennsylvania.
he is also a member of the Independent Agents & Brokers Board of Directors,
an organization that oversees insurance agent activities across the states
of Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware.
McConkey is proud to add that Norm is actively involved in his community.
He has served as a volunteer coach for youth sports and as a Sunday School
teacher, and is currently an active member of his local Rotary club.
