Tim joined McConkey in 2013 after spending six years with Travelers Insurance. He started his insurance career in the claims department, handling workers’ compensation, auto liability, and general liability claims in particular. He then spent several years as an underwriter in their construction division, working with all types of construction trades and general contractors ranging in size from $5M to $100M+ in revenue. As an underwriter, Tim gained invaluable experience in identifying exposures, finding coverage gaps, and interpreting subcontract terms and conditions relating to insurance requirements. This unique combination of experience in claims and construction underwriting gives him an edge when it comes to negotiating the best combination of coverage and price for McConkey’s clients and settling claims in their favor when they happen.
Tim’s primary responsibility now is servicing the agency’s largest construction clients, many of whom are insured through group captives. In his first few years at the agency, Tim has been instrumental in further developing McConkey’s Construction Practice. He enjoys the challenges of interpreting contract terms, negotiating coverage requirements with owners and subcontractors, and finding solutions to the complex problems contractors face when trying to manage their risk.
A graduate of Penn State University, Tim earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Crime, Law and Justice. He has also obtained his Construction Risk & Insurance Specialist (CRIS) designation through International Risk Management Institute (IRMI). Tim is an active member of the local Associated Builders & Contractors and Construction Financial Management Association chapters and has been invited to speak on various risk management topics for both organizations. He is also active in the local chapter for the March of Dimes and is on the Executive Committee for the Transportation, Building, & Construction Awards for them.
Tim resides in Lancaster with his wife, Katie, and their sons, Carter and Garrett. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family, rooting for Penn State Football and the Philadelphia Phillies, and golfing.
