I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately about image, first impressions, and lasting legacies. We all share in the responsibility of being image-bearers of the companies we choose to work for. Yet, how many of us really take the time to truly understand our image in the markets we serve, what impression we give, and what legacy we are leaving behind, not just as individuals but corporately?
McConkey’s tagline reads, “Innovative Solutions. Traditional Values.” It’s an integral part of our brand and one of the first things people see when navigating to our website, looking at our business card or seeing an advertisement. What does it mean to me? What does it say about us as a company? I think those four words and two periods speak volumes.
Teamwork and innovation are the building blocks of a great organization. What holds those things together, the mortar if you will, are the relationships that are built along the way. Teamwork and innovation are strengthened by our relationships with our customers, our fellow employees, insurance carrier partners, and other circles of influence within our communities. This unique vision of all working collectively towards a common goal is what gives McConkey its edge. It allows us to be nimble and creative. We can be a company that not only identifies problems, but brings its breadth and depth of experience to bear in crafting an innovative solution that leads to great results for all involved.
This term has gotten a bad rap in the media lately. However, I’d like you to consider these two words and what they really say. Traditional simply means long-established and the word Values is defined as standards of behavior. So, what long-established standards of behavior are we referencing? When it comes to McConkey, we’re talking about excellence and integrity.
Excellence can be clearly seen each day in the halls of McConkey. I urge you to stop by the office where you will experience excellence from the moment you walk in the door. It can be heard on the phone, seen in the work produced, and felt in the very air during face-to-face meetings. It’s not something we strive for, it’s something we do.
Integrity is marked by truth and honor, and it is the base upon which all other values are built. Without integrity, relationships have no real basis and nothing to cling to. True teamwork and innovation cannot be fostered without it nor can excellence be achieved. It’s been said by past leaders here at McConkey and continues to be said by all those that have followed, “Take care of the client first and everything else will take care of itself.” Integrity doesn’t get old or fall out of fashion. It’s this attitude that has been the legacy of our past and will continue to lead us into our future.
